The Mi-8 is a medium lift twin turbine helicopter initially manufactured by the Soviet Union and now manufactured by Russia.
Inducted in 1972, the Mi-8 has a long history of utility in the Indian Air Force as an attack and utility helicopter, and saw action as a part of Operation Meghdoot in the Siachen Glacier in 1989 and in Operation Pawan in Sri Lanka.
